Foam Fundamentals

Here are the answers to basics about our foam products, their origins and construction.

What type of foam do you use?

Explore the foams we stock and can source here! If you’re wondering where to buy foam, it’s a great place to start.

Do you manufacture the foam on-site?

Although we do all foam fabrication on-site, we source our raw materials from direct foam manufacturers and cut to spec. Questions about what we stock or can source? Let’s talk.

How much does foam cost?

It depends on the specific type of foam, the intricacies of the cutting and shaping and the size of the order. Explore our foam in stock.

What is the difference between open-cell and closed-cell polyethylene foam?

Open-cell foam is softer and preferred for comfort and cushioning projects, including furniture. Closed-cell foam is firmer and preferred for projects like packaging. Learn more about our foam in stock.

What’s the difference between 1.7 lb., 2 lb. and 4 lb. polyethylene foam?

4 lb. polyethylene is a higher-density foam, meaning it has more mass per unit volume. Foam density is measured in pounds per cubic foot, so a 12-inch by 12-inch by 12-inch cube of 2 lb. foam should weight 2 lbs. Note: Density also is often confused with firmness. For more about foam, explore our Materials in Stock page.

What is crosslink foam?

Crosslink foam is a closed-cell foam with a high-density feel. It’s also water resistant.
